Use Kanbei on your phone — Add to Home Screen, no app store

By Daniel Jimenez, founder of Kanbei · November 3, 2026 · 3 min read

A Kanbei guide — step by step, for organizers.

Kanbei is a website, not a native app. There is nothing to download and nothing in the App Store or Google Play. On a phone or tablet, open kanbei.xyz in the browser and add it to your home screen: it gets its own icon and opens fullscreen, like an app. It is the same site, the same account, and the same $20 a month, plus applicable taxes — not a separate version of Kanbei.

What Add to Home Screen does — and does not do

What it does: it puts a Kanbei icon on your home screen that opens the site fullscreen, without the browser chrome around it, so it feels like an app when you launch it. What it does not do: it does not install a native app. It is a shortcut into the same website, so everything works the way it does in the browser — same pages, same sign-in, same data.

On iPhone (Safari)

  • Open kanbei.xyz in Safari. Add to Home Screen only works from Safari on iPhone, not from other browsers.
  • Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Tap Add to Home Screen, then Add. The Kanbei icon appears on your home screen.
  • Tap the icon to open Kanbei fullscreen. Sign in the same way you would on a computer.
  • Turn on notifications inside the app once you are in — on iPhone, that is what makes reminders reach your phone. See the guide “How to turn on notifications in Kanbei” for the full steps.

On Android (Chrome)

  • Open kanbei.xyz in Chrome.
  • Tap the menu — the three dots in the top-right corner.
  • Tap Add to Home screen, or Install app if Chrome offers it. Confirm, and the Kanbei icon appears on your home screen.
  • Tap the icon to open Kanbei fullscreen. Sign in the same way you would on a computer.

On a tablet

Tablets work the same way as phones: Safari on an iPad, Chrome on an Android tablet, same steps. Kanbei is one browser version that works on any device, so there is nothing different to set up on a bigger screen.

Why there is no native app

Kanbei is built and supported by one person, and it is browser-only by design: one version everywhere, no download, no app-store approval or fees, updates instantly, the same $20 for everyone, and it works on any device. An app-store listing would not find buyers for a niche $20-a-month tool — store search does not surface it — and buyers are split across iPhone and Android, so a single native app would reach only part of them while the browser version reaches everyone.

Doing this in Kanbei

Open kanbei.xyz in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, add it to your home screen, and sign in. The demo works the same way: open /demo, add it to your home screen, and try the sample workspace on Kanbei from the icon.

Common questions

Is Add to Home Screen the same as installing an app?

No. It is a fullscreen shortcut into the same website. It opens Kanbei from its own home-screen icon, but it is not a native app and there is nothing to download.

Do I have to add Kanbei to my home screen to use it on my phone?

No. Open kanbei.xyz in any browser on your phone and sign in. Add to Home Screen only gives you an icon that opens it fullscreen.

Does it work on a tablet?

Yes. Tablets use the same steps as phones: Safari on iPad, Chrome on an Android tablet.

Why is Kanbei not in the App Store or Google Play?

Kanbei is browser-only by design: one version for every device, no download, no app-store approval or fees, and updates instantly. An app-store listing would not find buyers for a niche $20-a-month tool, and buyers are split across iPhone and Android, so a single native app would reach only part of them.
