Two-factor authentication adds a second step to signing in: after your password, Kanbei asks for a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. It uses TOTP — the same kind of code Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, and other authenticator apps generate. There is no text-message code: the code comes from your app, so it works even where texts do not arrive.
Step 1: Open Settings → Security
Sign in to your real account and open Settings from the sidebar, then the Security section. It says “Two-factor authentication with an authenticator app (TOTP). Once added, sign-in asks for a 6-digit code from your app after your password.” This is per account, not per org: it protects your sign-in, whichever org you open.
Step 2: Add your authenticator app
Press “Add authenticator app”. Kanbei shows a QR code: open your authenticator app, add a new account, and scan it. If you cannot scan, enter the secret shown under the code by hand in the app instead. Then type the 6-digit code your app shows and press “Verify and turn on”. If the code is not accepted, check the code your app is showing right now — codes change every 30 seconds — and try again.
Step 3: Save your backup codes
Once an authenticator is verified, the same Security section offers backup codes. Generate them and save them somewhere safe — a password manager, or printed somewhere only you can reach. Each code works once: if you lose your authenticator app, a backup code removes it so you can sign in with your password and set up a new one. The codes are shown only once, so copy them before you leave the page. Generating new codes invalidates the previous set.
Signing in with two-factor on
Sign in with your email and password as usual, and Kanbei then asks for the 6-digit code from your authenticator app. Enter it and you are in. To turn it off, go back to Settings → Security and press “Remove” next to the authenticator — Kanbei asks you to confirm first, and sign-in then goes back to password only.
Doing this in Kanbei
Two-factor needs a real account: it is not available in the demo, which has no sign-in. In your workspace, go to Settings → Security, add an authenticator app, verify it with a code, and save your backup codes. It costs nothing extra — it is part of the same $20 a month, plus applicable taxes, for the whole organization.
